MPH Portfolio Introduction

Welcome!!!  My name is Rosalyn Moya, but most people call me “Roz”.  I’m a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) student from San Francisco State University (SFSU).  I will be sharing some of my academic and professional experiences in Pubic Health with you through this electronic portfolio.

The MPH program in SFSU is a three year program that places praxis at the crux of our academic journey.  From year 1 to year 3, I learned theories used in public health and applied it in the field.  For example, my team and I planned and implemented a community health assessment (on

trafficked Asian women) beginning the first year and ended at the closing of my second year with a program plan that follows the assessment's recommendations.  Furthermore, during those three years, I had the opportunity to share and grow in the program with my cohort, which is the MPH graduating class of 2008.  My cohort made my experience with the SFSU MPH program enriching as we learned to build on each other’s unique strengths and weaknesses as a community.  While group projects with my cohort were valuable, my culminating experience (assessment on Filipina women) also gave me the opportunity to pursue a project and work with a community

on my own and of my own choice.

In addition to the SFSU MPH program, I also worked with various other projects in the community.   Organizations I worked with includes:

  • Bayanihan Clinic, which is a student-run clinic that provides acute health care and outreach services to under-represented populations, including the Filipino community.
  • I was also involved in a research project with the University of California San Francisco, called the Changing Orientation Toward
    ATOD Provider Network

Cancer Preventive Care in Two Generations of Filipina Immigrants, as a Tagalog interpreter and Transcriber.
      • I currently work for ATOD Provider NETWORK, an anti-tobacco program offering anti-tobacco resources and trainings to service providers in Alameda County and beyond.

This internet portfolio will provide you with details and examples of my work in SFSU and the community.
